The Leadership on Campus “Make a Difference Award” celebrates the unsung heroes who keep our school systems running through exceptional leadership. This award recognizes individuals who pair strategic excellence with human understanding, driving positive changes in public education through their unwavering dedication and integrity.
Rooted in the core teachings of Leadership on Campus, the committee sought out individuals who make a lasting, measurable difference in their communities by exemplifying exceptional leadership qualities. Specifically, we looked for nominees who maintain an inspiring and optimistic attitude during challenges, demonstrate purposeful and selfless service to support the success of others, and hold a deep, active passion for advancing public education. Additionally, these leaders must show a strong commitment to continuous learning and innovation by embracing new practices, all while leading by example with unwavering integrity, honesty, and accountability to the highest ethical standards.

Dr. Gyimah Whitaker
1st Place Recipient of the 2025 "Make a Difference" Award
As the Superintendent for the City Schools of Decatur, Dr. Whitaker is a visionary, inclusive, and equity-driven leader. Through strategic initiatives like the comprehensive implementation of the Science of Reading, she has transformed her district's culture and academic outcomes, proving that inclusive leadership yields sustainable growth.

Mr. Jake Parmer
2nd Place Recipient of the 2025 "Make a Difference" Award
An 8th-grade mathematics teacher at Washington Middle School in Cairo, Georgia, Mr. Parmer is a transformative educator. He is reflective, data-driven, and deeply committed to designing instruction that is purposeful and engaging. His innovative teaching methods have not only elevated student confidence but also strengthened school culture and instructional collaboration.

Dr. Alicia Conerly
3rd Place Recipient of the 2025 "Make a Difference" Award
Serving as the Federal Programs Director , MTSS Coordinator, Title IX Coordinator, EL Coordinator, and Foster Care P.O.C. for Marion School District in Mississippi, Alicia is a passionate advocate for STEM and equitable education. From securing substantial grant funding to leading at the national level as the President of the NSTA-2024-2025, her career is a testament to the transformative power of mentorship and selfless service.
